Who is Damion Burton?

My passion for creating fun eye-catching artwork dates back to my early childhood. I spent Saturday mornings drawing the characters from my favorite cartoons.

That passion for animation eventually started my journey to eventually earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts & Animation from The Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg. While getting my degree, I kept creating professionally. Briefly I was employed by a screen printing shop, Spirit Products, that specialized in creating custom designed school spirit apparel for Illinois schools. After that short, but enlightening experience, I went back to working in the banking industry, which fortunately for me, they allowed me to showcase my artistic talents every now and then. I have created illustrations for kids to color and hang up in our branches. I even was tasked to create a custom painted bench for an auction for charity on behalf of the Community Bank of Downers Grove which is a branch of Wintrust Bank. It was a great experience.

In 2007, I was given the opportunity for employment as a graphic designer for Bonneville Radio’s three major market radio stations; WTMX, WDRV, and WILV(which would go through many name changes, but today known as WSHE).

I’ve worked with many design teams throughout my tenure with Bonneville Radio/Hubbard Radio all the way up until the pandemic hit in May of 2020. Radio is ever-evolving, and the cast of characters has changed many times, but after 14 years, I’m proud to say I’m still here. My teams efforts and talents have even been recognized by winning a few radio industry awards for best websites along the way.

Professionally, I’m the last one standing, basically overseeing, creating, and maintaining 4 website properties, along with all print work needed for the stations or clients. In the past year, I’ve also had to add some Google Admin duties to my repertoire.

Being a husband living in the western suburbs with two beautiful children and an adorable dog(our third child), it allows me the feeling I miss - being a part of a team with passion, imagination, and just plain fun to be around!

Art is not only my profession, but it’s my first love. I’ve loved art since the day I drew my first Mickey Mouse character. My creative approach—no matter what the medium is—is to captivate the audience’s attention with vivid, bold designs or possibly a more clean, modern look design that highlights the brand and to create engagement.

Ultimately, I just want to make great art.
